Mission Statement
The
Hat Tavern Gallery, under the direction of Michael
Tcheyan, is a joint venture between the Hat Tavern
Restaurant, several prominent art galleries located
in the Chelsea Arts District in NYC, and the Summit
High School Art Department. The goals of the program
are:
- Provide
the City of Summit a professionally lighted
and maintained exhibition venue of world
class paintings for city residents and visitors
to enjoy. The emphasis is on contemporary
art, consistently changing the collection to
stimulate an ongoing discussion and appreciation
of art. This concept was first initiated
5 years ago through the efforts of the Summit
Public Art Committee.
- Provide the Summit High School
art department with a venue to discuss and
learn about professional artists ranging from
established masters to emerging artists to
young artists starting their career. The program
will build upon the efforts of Mr.
Anthony Akey, assistant principal at Summit High, and
Michael Tcheyan. These efforts are possible
due to a grant by the Summit Educational Foundation
(SEF) to the High School Art Department to
expand the Art Department’s goals and objectives.
